Why is Bowl-shaped Tea Called Tuocha?

Tuocha is a kind of pressed tea made into a cone-shaped head, is mainly produced in Yunnan. In order to facilitate the transportation of the caravan, several tea vines wrapped in oil paper are generally connected, and straw is used as a straw for growing strips.

In history, Jingu people Li Wenxiang founded a tea workshop in the twenty-sixth year of Guangxu (1900), using the sun-dried green tea as a raw material to steam the moon cake-shaped group tea, also known as Gucha.
Then, under the production of Maoheng and Yongchangxiang of Xiaguan (now Dali City) in Yunnan Province, they were copied into “bowl-shaped tea”, and there were also points between Guzhuang and Guanzhuang. In the past 40 years, Yunnan tea has been made in Xiaguan mostly.Yunnan glutinous tea is steamed into a bowl shape with primary and secondary materials. The outer diameter is 8 cm and the height is 4.5 cm.
In addition to Yunnan’s production, there are also productions in Chongqing. According to the quality of the raw materials used, it is divided into three categories: “Superior Chongqing Tea”, “Chongqing Tea” and “Shancheng Tea”. The weight of Chongqing tea is divided into 50 grams, 100 grams and 150 grams.
The origin of the name of Tuocha:
It was transformed from the regiment. It was said that it was named after the Sichuan-Yangtze River in the past. Regardless of the statement, it can be presumed that tea is a fairly old product in Yunnan tea and has been sold well both inside and outside the province.
Two statements about the shape of tea:
Argument 1: According to legend, it was originally made from loose tea to make tea, brick tea and cake tea. The bar tea is round-shaped, the brick tea is square-shaped, and the cake tea is round-shaped. Later, slowly evolved into tea.
Narrative 2: Tea was evolved from the “Pu’an Group Tea” in the Ming Dynasty and the “Daughter Tea” in the Qing Dynasty.
“Team Tea” is a small tea cake produced in the Song Dynasty. It was originally made for the court to drink when Ding was a Fujian official. The tea cake is printed with dragon and phoenix patterns. The dragons of the printing plate called “Dragon Group” or Longcha, Panlong Tea, Dragon Baking, and Xiaotuan Long; the Yinfeng people called “Feng Tuan” or Fengguo, Xiaofeng Group and so on.
In the Yunnan tea area, the industrious women of all ethnic groups have been the main force in the production of tea since ancient times.
